Dive into the depths of a traumatized subconscious in "Light in the Shadow," a game created by a small team during our game development course at university. This project aims to raise awareness of mental health issues by putting you in the shoes of a character navigating an unwell mind.
In the game, you trigger and explore repressed memories from a traumatic childhood, learning about the experiences of an abused child. Your goal is to guide them through their journey to acceptance and recovery.
The part I enjoyed and hated the most was developing the portal shaders with teleportation. They were really tricky to get working, but once they did, it was amazing.
We built the game using Unity and C#. "Light in the Shadow" is not just about gameplay; it's about understanding and overcoming the darkness within.
